The Top 10 Multi-platform Games of this Generation

This generation has given us many brilliant console exclusive games, however the relevance of console exclusive titles is going down as more high quality games are being pushed out for every platform out there.

The criteria for being multi platform is whether or not the game is out for XBOX 360 and PS3.

So, without further ado. The best multi platform games of this generation so far.

Just Cause 210. Just Cause 2

Just Cause 2 has a sprawling and beautiful open world, where the simple and only objective is to destroy and wreak havoc upon the innocent citizens of Panau. The world has many, many islands and districts to explore and the entire world is chock full of easter eggs. An island not dissimilar to the elusive island from LOST is also included in the game for ultimate creepiness. The arsenal of this game is immense and overall the game has a lot to offer in terms of content to price ratio and if you have the PC version you will also have access to a whole database of game modifications such as a jetpack and even turning your character into Iron Man!

LA Noire9. LA Noire

This detective action game was in development for seven years making their phenomenal facial recognition software. The game has an extremely engaging plotline and has been met with both critical and financial success. The unique and revolutionary facial recognition software could pave the way for next generation’s graphical fidelity and the future of detective games.

8. Darksiders

Many fans have clamored for a HD “mature” Legend of Zelda title. There may never be such a title, but Darksiders comes damn near close to a “Mature” Zelda title. This third person pastiche of Hack ’n’ Slash and classical adventure has an outrageous amount of potential, with you controlling “War”- one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse in a mystery surrounding Angels, Demons and the extinction of the Human race. There is also a sequel due to be out in next year.

7.  Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition

Street Fighter IV made it’s way to shelves in 2008. Now in 2011 Capcom are now on their third version of the game with new tweaks and characters. The gameplay remains similar to earlier Street Fighter games, with one on one strategic, high octane fights and tantalising ultra combos to devastate your enemies.  Street Fighter IV has single handedly revitalised the fighting game genre for a new generation. It still remains the undisputed king of fighting games today.

6. Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty is a Game that really needs no introduction. This is the only Call Of Duty game on this list simply because it is the best Call Of Duty out there on shelves right now. Modern Warfare 2 had an epic campaign and near flawless, expansive and enjoyable multiplayer. The game has an active multiplayer scene even today after Black Ops had been released. Right now the game is extremely cheap and well worth a punt if you’re into first person shooters!

Dirt 35. Dirt 3

Dirt 3 is the latest in the Dirt series made by homegrown English developers Codemasters. Dirt 3 has a myriad of single player content, most notably the gymkhana mode where you perform various feats with your car of choice and feels more like the old Tony Hawk games in a car rather than a racing game. It’s a big breath of fresh air since the slew of arcade racers and simulation racers such as Blur and Gran Turismo 5. Dirt 3 offers good clean fun and a wide variation of single and multiplayer modes to appease even the most fussiest of gamers.

Batman Arkham Asylum4. Batman Arkham Asylum

Batman is the ultimate badass, who would not want to be a millionaire crime fighting vigilante?  Arkham Asylum puts you in the role of Batman, with full access to his arsenal and Bat-capabilities. There are classic Villains in Arkham Asylum, including the man who broke the bat- Bane, Harley Quinn and of course, the most famous Batman Villain of Them all, The Joker. Arkham Asylum has been out for a while now and it has a great combat system, stealth aspects and strategic value. If you’re a fan of Batman or love brawlers, Batman: Arkham Asylum is for you.

assassins-creed-brotherhood3. Assassins Creed Brotherhood

Assassins Creed is a franchise built around history, conspiracy and parkour. Ubisoft Montreal’s third entry into the series follows the story of Ezio Auditore, now a master assassin trying to take back Rome from the Borgia’s. The City of Rome is expansive and you will find yourself eventually learning the city layouts and eventually memorising the entire map until it’s like the back of your hand. Brotherhood also includes a new Muliplayer mode, where you pick out and assassinate fellow players in a bid for the most points. Assassins Creed: Brotherhood would last even the most experienced gamers a long time with it’s expansive world, engaging plot and unique gameplay.

2. Portal 2

The Orange Box hit retail shelves way back in 2007, a little quirky game called Portal was included within the Orange box and suddenly became one of the most loved games in history. Valve’s follow up, Portal 2 does not disappoint fans of the series. The game has amazing puzzles using the unique Portal Gun, and many other variables are thrown into the game for the ultimate gaming challenge. Your wit, skill and intelligence will all be tested in Portal 2’s campaign, all whilst having an engaging narrative. In addition to this is the Co-op mode, which gives you 2 Portal guns, enabling for more inventive and creative levels. Each of these modes are a good 8-10 hours long so put your thinking caps on because Portal 2 is a cracker!

1. Red Dead RedemptionRed Dead Redemption

Masters of creating open world games, Rockstar took their hand at making an open world western game. The end result was one of the best gaming experiences to have ever been made.  Red Dead Redemption has tantalising world scope and ambition, with everyone’s experiences being different. There are hundreds- if not thousands of hours of content available in the world that Rockstar has so finely crafted. You take the role of John Marston, and your influence upon the world around you will change the entire way you play the game. The game also has a fully fledged story mode which can be completely avoided if you want to simply explore the amazing vistas of Red Dead Redemption.  As I mentioned before, the game has an amazing amount of content and it is one of the most polished and impressive games I have played in recent memory. Buy Red Dead Redemption right now and get sucked into the world of the wild wild west.
